Fossick Project

Bio

The show MONKEYBIZ is a revisitation of Wu Ch’ng-ên’s classic 16th century Chinese book The Monkey (The Journey to the West). At the center of the scene we find the monkey born from the stone egg, a clever and irreverent “brick” who uses ingenuity and magic to overturn every obstacle. His best known representation is surely that of Goku in Dragon Ball, who moves on a cloud and holds a stick with the power to stretch. But here, his journey is intertwined with themes, characters and quotations from Fossick Project's repertoire, creating a new, lively and contemporary narrative. The adventures of the monkey take shape from the encounter of music and images: Hand-made designs and materials come alive on the bright board at the rhythm of music, evoking the charm of Chinese shadows and inviting the audience into a tactile and dreamlike world. Without the use of dialogues, the narrative relies on a refined interplay between original music and moving images, always a hallmark of Fossick Project. The music, although mainly in English, does not describe the scenes but amplify their meaning, leaving room for imagination. This unique approach has conquered over time a heterogeneous audience, breaking down language and cultural barriers to offer an open and inclusive experience, able to enchant spectators of all ages and nationalities. With MONKEYBIZ, Fossick Project invites us to explore a world where visual poetry and music dialogue in harmony, transforming the stage into a magical and borderless space.
